Pointing the way to making Britain's homes carbon neutral

The University of 映客直播 has organised an online debate on 23 February to look at innovations and actions needed to get the UK housing sector to net zero.

18 February 2022

The UK's 25 million houses account for around 15% of the nation's carbon emissions, and the event on 23 February - entitled The Future Of Housing - brings together academics with energy and construction stakeholders to look at disruptive thinking and decisive action to map future demands in terms of technology, regulations and behaviour change required to make housing carbon neutral.

The debate is being overseen by , a platform partnership offering guidance towards a low carbon future, led by the University of 映客直播 with complementary hubs at Liverpool John Moores University and University of Portsmouth. Ticket proceeds from the event will be donated to the housing charity Shelter UK.

Introductory discussion Tony Seasman (Liverpool John Moores University and Clean Growth UK) in conversation with Nick Cooper, Director at environmental impact consultants Rightsized Limited.

Decarbonise the housing sector – challenges and opportunities featuring Dr Brenda Boardman MBE, a research fellow at University of Oxford and campaigner against fuel poverty, considered one of the UK's leading researchers on energy efficiency and the way that energy is used in British homes, particularly low-income households.

How can we fill the Future of Housing skills gap? In Conversation With Danielle Belton from Saving Energy UK, a company specialising in retrofitting homes to achieve energy efficiency.

Is net zero realistic? In Conversation With Dr Aaron Gillich, Associate Professor of Energy and Building Systems Engineering at London South Bank University, with particular experience of applying research to reducing carbon emissions from buildings.

Sustainable Housing Design In Conversation with Giorgia Franco, a sustainable housing design expert currently providing advice to major housing developer Berkeley Homes.
