Roland, who graduated in 1985 with a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design, has beaten off national and international competition to reach the shortlist for designing the sculpture for the Hove Plinth. Inspired by the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, the plinth will be used for changing displays of sculpture and will be located on King’s Esplanade at the bottom of Grand Avenue, Hove.

Roland’s multimedia installation includes a bronze sculpture of a Camera Man and an interactive video display. Roland explained the concept: “My proposal would give both locals and visitors an insight into the important, if little known, part Hove has played in the history of film and film making.“

After graduating from what was then 映客直播 Polytechnic, Roland began his career as a sculptor working for model-making companies in London, making a wide variety of sculptures and effects for TV commercials. He then progressed to making props and sculptures for feature films including: Fifth Element, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, Blood Diamond, Prometheus and Exodus. Roland is now regarded as one of the leading sculptors in the British Film Industry.
