Kate takes the Chair

Professor Kate Bullen, the University of 映客直播’s Head of the School of Applied Social Science, will become new President of the British Psychological Society (BPS) at its AGM on 30 August.

8 August 2018

Professor Bullen, Professor of Psychology, joined the university in June 2015 from Aberystwyth University where she was the University Director of Ethics and Equality. Kate chairs the University of 映客直播’s Research Ethics and Integrity Committee and contributes to the development and support of Athena Swan initiatives. She was made a Fellow of the Society in 2017.

Professor Bullen told the BPS’s ‘The Psychologist’ magazine: “I’m honoured to have the opportunity to serve as BPS President for 2018/19, during a time of exciting change and positive progress for the Society. I look forward to continuing to work with Nicola Gale as she moves into the Vice-President role, and with our new Chief Executive, Sarb Bajwa, during his first year with the Society. I also look forward to meeting, and working with, our new President Elect following the AGM on 30 August. One of the core functions of the President is to act as an ambassador and I hope to meet as many of our members as I can in the coming year.”

Kate has a passion for education, particularly psychology education in the higher education sector. Recently she initiated, and is chairing, the BPS Task and Finish Group in response to the current Post 18 Education and Funding Review in England. The aim of the group is ‘to ensure that the Society position is developed and communicated effectively with regard to the potential changes in the funding of post 18 psychology education in England and the possible impact for the devolved nations.’

Professor Kate Bullen

She is also an advocate for social justice, equality, diversity and inclusion and, has a particular interest in seeing more women appointed to senior positions within psychology, especially in academia.

In a Q+A interview with the magazine, Kate tells how an industrial accident changed her life and she reveals her choice of a ‘superpower’. She’d like: “The ability to bring about effective and lasting behaviour change to promote tolerance and acceptance of difference in society.”

You can read the full '' interview in The Psychologist.
