The verdict: university students are tops

Two university students saw off competition from around the country to win the National Law Society’s client interviewing contest.

21 March 2016

Fionnuala Richardson and Chloe Chatton, both studying Law with Business degrees, used their legal knowledge and interviewing skills to get through three tough client interviewing scenarios on a range of complex family law issues.

The finals, held at the offices of the law firm Irwin Mitchell LLP in Sheffield, were contested by students from the universities of East Anglia, Gloucestershire, Hull, Kent, Manchester Metropolitan, Oxford Brookes and the University of Law in Leeds.

Fionnuala and Chloe were awarded the top prizes from the Law Society of England and Wales, including the National Law Society Client Interviewing Competition Cup. The pair began their success story with internal competitions sponsored by the law firm Gerard Maye Legal. They will now represent England and Wales in the world finals in Canada in April.

Chloe said: “We are so happy that our hard work paid off - it was amazing and a testament to everyone involved in the University of 映客直播 team.”

University of 映客直播 Senior Law Lecturer, Jeanette Ashton, who runs the university’s Client Interviewing Skills programme and has helped coach Fionnuala and Chloe to their final success, said: “I am thrilled for Fionnuala and Chloe as they worked so hard. This is the first time we have made the national final so to win it is fantastic.”

Lucy Jones, Principle Lecturer in Law, said: “I was delighted with the success of Fi and Chloe who had put in so much hard work. The nine judges were impressed with their calm, professional approach and their knowledge and understanding of the legal issues. Jeanette must also take some credit as the success was clearly due in part to her excellent guidance and continuous support.”
